Stars and Stripes

Independence Day Fashion

July 4th is one of my favorite holidays for many reasons. I love all family gatherings and we always celebrate July 4th at the lake watching fireworks. It's always fun to dress around a theme and as I thought about what I was going to wear for the festivities, I found inspiration in patriotic items.

I am heading to the lake to sip fruity drinks and watch fireworks! I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday!

Mid-Week Sparkle

Mid-Week Sparkle

I must admit, that on occasion I feel like I am a 12 year old girl. I've always loved bright colors and pink. I consider myself to have a very refined fashion palette, but, on occasion, the glitter-loving, pink-obsessed girl comes out - tastefully, I might add.

Lots of designers have been satisfying my guilty addiction lately, and I can't get enough! I see glitter and squeal - like a teenage girl - then compose myself long enough to pull out a debit or credit card to purchase said item(s).

Some might find it strange that an, ahem, almost 30 year old still purchases items with glitter, but there's no shame in my game. Sparkle on.

Poshmark

My new favorite thing: POSHMARK. Poshmark is an online shopping app that allows buying and selling of new and used women's clothing and accessories. I love that Poshmark has clothing options for all sizes, ages, and occasions. Many popular bloggers and celebrities are now members too! Never before has it been possible to shop your favorite fashionista's closets!

Recently, Adiel from It's because I think too much, Jocelyn from Bossy Jocey and Liz from Dear Andi have written about Poshmark. Reading these blog posts inspired me to do my own post about my love for Poshmark.

Ring // House of Harlow 1960 via Poshmark

I can't tell you how much money I've made because then my husband would be able to figure out how much money I've spent -- and he and I both agree that it's probably best that he not know -- but, I know lots of girls that do it full-time. It's the solution to all problems, really!

• Boyfriend/husband/significant other hate being dragged along on shopping trips?
- Solution: Poshmark! It's an app, so it can go wherever you go, it's always open and you can shop 24/7 -- I do!

• Are you broke?
- Solution: Poshmark! You can sell women's fashion and accessories to make some extra cash. It's easy. It's fun! Photograph, list, sell... And spend! Once you make a sale, you simply print out the prepaid shipping label that Poshmark emails you, slap it on a box, and drop in the mail. See, it's easy!

• Do you not have time to go shopping?
- Solution : Poshmark! With over 1 million listings added daily, every 10-12 days, Poshmark has more inventory than an entire Nordstrom store! (For real!) With that much inventory, you are far more likely to find things you'll love, plus it's cheaper! Poshmark allows new and used merchandise, which most has been drastically reduced from retail prices.

It may sound silly, but I love packaging my sales like gifts with the hopes that when the buyer opens, it will brighten her day. The idea of being able to pass along my items to someone and hopefully make their day brighter, is very important to me.

I am hosting the "Preppy Glam" Posh Party for Poshmark on Monday, May 13 from 9-11 PM. It is free to join and you can sign up using code HPMRJ to receive a $5 credit. I will be in search of items best fitting for the "Preppy Glam" theme and will share my top picks from the party in "Host Picks". I have put together a sampling of items that are similar to those that you are likely to see in my "Host Picks" that night. You will find items ranging from budget to couture, just like my closet at home! I am even adding new items to my closet (see here) just for the party!

My Favorite Things

Every girl has a list of things she can't live without.
Here are my favorites:

1. Cake Dry Shampoo - I have very fine hair so dry shampoo helps to add texture and grittiness to my hair and I love it. Truthfully, before there was dry shampoo, I used baby powder. Go ahead, laugh, but it worked! Having blonde hair for 25+ years required a bit of Macgyver-ing to hide the roots between coloring or -- ahem, grease and oil. A few years ago, I went to darker hair (less maintenance), but I've been using Cake Dry Shampoo for dark hair and it is my favorite. It comes in 3 colors to help closely match your hair color.

2. Coconut Oil - If you haven't tried Coconut Oil, RUN to your nearest drugstore, grocery store, whatever, and buy it! I have extremely dry, sensitive skin and coconut oil is a cure all. Not only will your skin be the softest it's ever been, but you should use a small amount in your hair. Your hair will thank you too. It is magic. Soft skin, soft hair? Yes, please!

3. First-Aid Beauty Lotion - I am extremely picky when it comes to lotion. I prefer un-scented, non-greasy lotion that has to be able to tackle my severely dry skin. Mission accomplished, First-Aid Beauty!

4. Aquaphor - To keep my lips soft and from cracking when they are dry, I will forever use Aquaphor. I put it on at bedtime and vöila, soft lips by morning. It only takes a small amount and it also works wonders on dry, cracked heels too.

5. Brown Sugar Body Rub by Fresh - For exfoliating. It does the trick without doing harsh effects to your skin, which is a priority to me.

6. Nars Multiple Stick - Multi-purpose bronzer and in tons of colors. It can be used on the eyes, cheeks, lips or body as bronzer. I have a few colors that I use.

7. Essie Nailpolish - Who doesn't love Essie?! I have a few favorites, but Penny Talk is currently my fave. It is metallic and so on trend.

8. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick - It comes in multiple colors and I even use parts of it as eyeshadow! Again, with products that are multi-purpose. Do you see a trend here?

9. Chanel Glossimer Lipgloss - If you are like me, you are hesitant to try pricey new things unless you have heard good reviews on the product or try a sample first. I first tried this lipgloss because a friend received it as a gift and it wasn't her color. Right place, right time and I was introduced to my favorite lipgloss!

Spring Trends

Trying to dress for Spring in Texas can be tricky because of the added rainfall and unpredictable weather. The deciding factor for various fashion decisions involves walking outside.  Depending on the weather and humidity, certain steps must be taken. Wear hair up or down -- or curly? Pants or shorts? Flats or heels? Jacket or no jacket? These questions are asked wherever you live, but in good ole Texas, things are different. We have a skewed sense of understanding seasons because we really only have 2 seasons: Hot as hell and chilly. There are roughly 2 days a year when weather is perfect. Those 2 days are my favorite time of year. Clear skies and warm enough to wear shorts, but a cool breeze keeps you perfectly comfortable. Yes, please!

Cardigan - Old Navy. Jeans - Gap. Shoes - Miu Miu.
Handbag - Fendi ( for sale here.)

I recently had the honor of hosting a "Spring Trends" party for Poshmark and I loved seeing all of the fun, pretty Spring looks! Over 200,000 listings are included in this party! Check it out! You can see my picks here and visit my closet.

Kate Spade has nailed it with their most recent collection for Spring. Bows, pastels, stripes... perfection! As difficult as it was to narrow down my favorites, I did. Here are a few of the many, many gorgeous pieces that I am eyeing. If you've noticed through Instagram, I already have the flats and love them!

I plan on enjoying this beautiful weather that we are having and you can find my shopping online at the lake or by the pool!

Fashionable Flats

If you've noticed through Instagram, I am primarily a flats girl. I love to invest in pieces that can be taken from season to season and year to year. Don't get me wrong, I shop for everything, but my wardrobe consists mainly of items that are versatile, figure-flattering and fashionable. I am constantly amazed at how particular pieces in my wardrobe can instantly transform my mood and an outfit.

"A great pair of shoes can make a $20 outfit look like couture, and a poorly constructed
pair of shoes can make couture look like a cheap knockoff." - Nina Garcia

My latest investment/steal is a pair of miu miu flats from Poshmark. I. Am. In. Love. I love the stripes, the bows, AND they are miu miu! (*Bonus aspect is they were ony $68!)

Shirt: Old Navy. Sweater: Gap (Similar here). Pants: Gap.
Watch: Michele (Similar here). Shoes: miu miu.

As you can see, my niece has embraced my love of flats and has made me very
proud! She is definitely a little fashionista.
She is wearing Gymboree pink glitter flats (similar here).

Cozy & Colorful

In honor of my first blog post, I dressed for the occasion by wearing a few of my favorite things! I am currently -- and always -- obsessed with color and print. Anytime I need a pick-me-up, I know to reach for bright, colorful, and fun pieces from my wardrobe. Try it! It works!

Sweater: Old Navy. Jeans: Gap. Shoes: Cole Haan.
Handbag: Dooney & Bourke (old, but similar here).
Leopard scarf: (old, but similar here and here).

I am currently obsessing over chunky knits sweaters! I can't seem to get enough! The bigger, the better! I love the ability to hide that extra winter weight while still looking chic (and maintaining comfort)! Texas weather is fickle and any chance I get to wear winter clothing is always welcomed!

A few parting words from Pinterest.
